Churchill Member of Parliament Niki Ashton says chronic under funding is to blame for the deaths of two children in a house fire on a Saskatchewan reserve.  She says there are steps the federal government should take noting water and sewer services are a key part of that in a number of communities where there isn’t proper infrastructure for water.  She says there’s been a lot of talk around the need for building codes to be upheld on reserves which isn’t always the case because communities don’t get enough funding for housing.

Ashton says many of the suggestions come from an inquest currently taking place in Manitoba into fires on reserves.
