Safety Concerns Were A Priority.

Mayor Cal Huntley reported Flin Flon City Council met with representatives of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization before their meeting Tuesday night.  The Organization updated Council on their decision not to continue with their research into a nuclear waste storage facility in the Creighton area due to the fact the geological structure near the community will not allow for a safe storage facility.

Mayor Huntley said they thanked the Organization for the way they approached the project in Creighton and how they engaged the community and surrounding communities.  He said it’s a real tribute to their dedication to safety since as soon as they found a problem with rock fractures they let the community know they could not proceed.  Huntley added its unfortunate for Creighton as well as Flin Flon that the economic opportunities the project would have brought won’t be there but he believes there will be other opportunities in the future.
