Plans are to Continue a Split Tax Bill

At Tuesday night’s Flin Flon City Council meeting Mayor George Fontaine says some people have complained about the property taxes going up this year but he said their budget actually resulted in the mill rate going down.  He says the increase in the local tax bill came from an increase in the school division’s budget but the larger increase came from the provincial property tax assessment.

Mayor Fontaine said there has been a lot of positives out of the separation this year of police and fire services from the tax portion of the tax bill and he would like to see it continue.  He says there was a glitch in the system since it was billed per property allowing commercial properties to pay the same cost as residential properties but that will be looked at in the future.
