Northern Manitoba Will See More Skilled Trades People

Premier Greg Sellinger announced in The Pas on Friday that 36 people will receive apprenticeship training for good jobs in high-demand skilled trades. Training will be targeted for aboriginal participants. Selinger said it was a big day for the North. He says it means good jobs for northern people where they’re going to get red seal trades.  He adds they’re going to be certified to be millwrights, electricians, pipe fitters, good paying jobs here in the north in the hydro build, in the mining sector, in the forestry sector.  Selinger says there will be opportunities going forward and northern people should have first crack at them and this training program will give them that opportunity.

Training will take place in The Pas and Thompson with experience taking place with employers throughout northern Manitoba. The province will provide 3 point 3 million dollars in funding and Manitoba Hydro 2 point 9 million.
