Churchill’s MP Says There’s a Need For Immediate Action

The NDP Status of Women critic and Churchill MP Niki Ashton says last week’s RCMP report that confirmed 1181 indigenous women went missing or were murdered in the last 33 years is a call for action.
Ashton says the numbers show that the problem is systemic and that the epidemic is national.  She adds the Federal Government must take leadership and without immediate action including an inquiry, indigenous women will continue to go missing and be murdered.
Ashton has echoed calls that a national inquiry be done in tandem with a national action plan to end violence against women.
